When Women "Band" Together – why I love my show, "A Day in the Life of a Strolling Violinist"

On Wednesday, April 6th, I had the honor and privilege to perform my one woman show, “A Day in the Life of a Strolling Violinist” for the Arlington Heights Women’s Club in the Hendrickson Room of the Memorial Library. Women’s Clubs such as theirs are so supportive of women, children, libraries and many other philanthropic organizations. Keep in mind that a women’s club is not a “girly” thing – you never want to underestimate the power of a woman!  The AHWC is such an inspiration for me with all that they have done and continue to do to improve themselves and their community. To top it off, one of their members took the time to write this – ”

“I always thought you gave a wonderful program but this exceeded my expectations by 150%.  You were great in performance, energy, stories, knowledge and more.  The ‘girls’ really did love the program.
Thanks a billion.”

Never underestimate the power of a woman!

Never underestimate the power of a woman!

Time for Taize…

On Wednesday, February 24, 2016, violinist Jennifer Silk will be joined by colleague cellist Wendy Cotton for this ecumenical meditative prayer service that incorporates song and chant, Scripture readings and silence.  The service begins at 6:30 p.m., with welcoming music shortly before it.

All Are Welcomed

All Are Welcomed

This event is being sponsored and hosted by the Clare Oaks Retirement community, in the Sacred Heart Chapel located behind 825 Carillon Drive in Bartlett, Illinois.

As the candles are lit and through singing simple chants, the mind is quieted and the heart is opened. The belief is that healing is a grace that connects us to life in God. Taize services foster reconciliation and peace among all people and this is done by welcoming all faiths so everyone will feel at home.

One of the most popular days a strolling violinist has is…

Valentine’s Day – why?  Because the universal language of love is music!  This year, Valentine’s Day is on a Sunday and so the whole weekend is packed with possibilities for live music.  If you prefer more bang for your buck, then head over to Durty Nellie’s in Palatine to hear the great Jazz Consortium Big Band with the opening act being the Palatine High School Jazz Ensemble, 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.
